Description Collaboration with La Pirata (Catalonia) Aran from La Pirata and Menno had a closed meeting in the secret treasure cave to agree on a recipe. That didn’t take too long.  Roasted sesame seeds caused the subtitle ‘Open sesame!’. Combined with the presence of our pirate friend from Súria, Catalonia: here it is Ali & Baba! You can decide yourself who’s Ali and who’s Baba ;)

And so it is.

A true bohemian could wish for a warming winter beer with tones of tangerine that sets the right atmosphere and vibe for some serious ‘Flix & Chill’ during these dark days… The intention of this beer is a one-off edition, but no guarantees there because the are some fanatic beer-rights-advocates on the work floor.

Description Kees & Menno thought about malts. Smoked malts as the base malt for a new brew… Smoked malt from Bamberg to be precise. The choice of base malt was unanimous. But (headstrong who?) they wanted to make two different beers with it. March 14th 2017was Imperial Stout (Frack & Frick) day at our place, April 12th was Barley Wine (Frick & Frack) day at Brouwerij Kees!' place. Try them alongside to taste the obvious differences and unavoidable similarities.

Description EBC 120 29 EBU One of the limited Borefts 2016 specials. Translates as... well, this is a hard one... Framboos is the Dutch word for raspberry. But 'boos' also means 'angry'. Framblij is a non existing word in Dutch. But 'blij' means 'happy'. So the little joke is the contradiction between boos & blij. Hopefully it's still kind of funny explained like this. If not: just enjoy the beer! 100 Kilo's of local raspberries found their way into this fruity stout (and clogged the filters afterwards, but we forgave them).

Description Frank & Vrij translates as a figure of speech as ‘free-and-easy’ that’s what ‘Vermont’ by association brought to our minds. Not as hazy as you might expect…but hey...ish. The smell is intensive grassy and fruity with makes you want to take another sniff before taking the next step (promised). Flavourful to the max. One for the books, this Vermouth IPA turned out great! Full of fruit, smooth mouth feel, soft bitter finish. Simply a delicious enjoyment. Like the translation of the name: free-and-easy. p.s fyi: the small ‘2’ on the label is because we made a small batch of Frank & Vrij a long, long time ago. Different beer, but same name.

Description It is a great joy to see so many chef’s getting more and more enthusiastic about beer/food pairings. In the Netherlands we enjoyed inspiring beer dinings at ‘Dertien’, a superb restaurant in Rotterdam. That’s why we immidiatly said ‘yes!’ when chef Pepijn proposed a special brew to enforce this trend. We brew a hazy purple weizen - ish with elderberries. The pairings to go with this beer are much awaited! It’s name is a tribute to the legendary Jimmy Hendriks and Prince. Purple Haze & Purple Rain

Description We were looking forward to this beer...and it turned out we were right to. With 11% ABV it’s a strong beer for beerlovers that enjoy their peated flavors. The original bitter coffee and chocolate flavors of Hel & Verdoemenis (translates as Hell & Damnation) are enriched with the peat, woody, roasty tastes of the exceptional Port Charlotte barrels. The beer aged in these barrels for over 6 months. About Port Charlotte - Two miles south of Bruichladdich (Scotland), lies the village of Port Charlotte and ruins of Lochindaal Distillery, that ran spirit for 100 years between 1829 and 1929. The heavily peated Port Charlotte single malts of Bruichladdich are a tribute to the men who once worked this great, now silent, distillery. Description Translates as Higher & Lower. The aroma of this golden orange colored India Pale Lager is dominated by citrus, tropical fruit, honey and flowery notes due to the yeast and cascade hops. Description Some Magic from Stu (Magic Rock UK) & some Tricks from Brouwerij de Molen. As you figured, a name for this beer wasn’t difficult to find. Stuart brought some Cryo hops with him for the brew. That was a first for us but certainly not a last. The use of these lupulin hop powders offers us possibilities to enhance hop flavor and aroma (even more), brew efficiency and sustainability. So we’re probably not done with cryo yet… Back to the beer: a hoppy, fruity imperial IPA with the Vermont yeast subtile in the aftertaste.

Description The base beer of this multigrain Belgian ale was missing something when it was 'finished' so we wanted to take it a step further. The fresh Woodward Reserve barrels arrived around the same time so this beer and those barrels seemed destined to meet up. So the ale was missing something: AND BOY DID IT FIND IT IN THOSE BARRELS! A beautiful golden colour and if gold would have a taste: this would definitely be it.

Description In January 2016 our friends Txus and Eneko from Laugar Brewery (Basque Country) came over for a collaboration. It's turned out as a crazy but genius triple Saison-ish with salt, rye, smoked whisky malts and infused with bourbon. While thinking of a name for this new puppy we decided to combine two icons of our own cultures, Txapela & Klompen. Txapela being the traditional Basque headwear & Klompen being the traditional Dutch footwear. The beer is unpronounceable in both our languages now - probably neither in yours - but, hey... 'that's De Molen for ya'.

Description Vuur & Vlam is an overly hopped beer. Yet, it's  not aggressive in it's bitterness or too grassy from the hops. We mainly retrieve the fruit and floral aromas from the hops. Description Pours deep brown garnet with a dark tan head which slowly disappears. Aroma is quite decadent with booze, vanilla, oak, buttercream, toffee & ofcourse bourbon. In taste the sweetness overpowers any bitterness that may try and get a look in. It's hard to guess the ABV. Description EBU 9 - 31 EBU - Specila limited brew for Borefts 2016. A nice refreshing beer, sweet from the apricots with a light bitterness from the almonds. Translates as Sun & Good Times (hard to find a translation for 'gezelligheid' it's like cosy-ness or something :)
